Pokot Development Programme (PDP), Pokot Integrated Programme (PIP) and Training of HIV/AIDS Community Counsellors
Abstract
The evaluation is part of NLM's policy to perform external evaluations of projects around two years after the projects have phased out. The main purpose of the evauation is to assess the longterm impacts and sustainability of two development projects and one HIV and Aids project. The projects have been implemented in cooperation with local partner North West Diocese og the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenya. The development projects were designed with four components: agriculture, health, education and women concern to support the Kenyan government in its aim to facilitate long term poverty reduction strategies.
Pokot, were the PDP and PIP were implemented, is located on the north western side of the Rift Valley Province and known as one of the most remote, marginalised and undeveloped areas in Kenya. The different phases of the project have reached out to the most remote and marginalised areas in Pokot. The planned activities have mainly been achieved and there are many sustainable effects of the activities despite many challenges such as remote areas without roads, culture, illiteracy and partly nomadic lifestyle.
